Below is summary of three main debates of the
day and you can also watch parts of Adam Boulton’s,Theresa May’s and David
Cameron’s speeches, as well as interviews with some of the speakers and audience
members, in our film of the event.

The first topic of the day was The Third Age. Jess and myself were surprised at how affected
we were by the issues raised – they were topics we admittedly had never given
much thought to, but the fact is that ‘the elderly’ suffer a great deal of
discrimination and some of the stories were pretty depressing to hear. One issue
concerned how our society now consists of an extra generation because people
live longer; this means that more and more elderly people have to become carers.
In particular, women at some point find themselves as carers for both their
children and their parents or a disabled relative. At the same time they are
either expected to work or if they do have to stop working there is very little
financial or alternative support in place. Baroness GreenGross said the
government needs to give financial incentives to employers so that they can
offer flexi-time and that carers and volunteers, who provide the equivalent of
