The Institute for Citizenship, and The Co-operative are delighted to announce the start of an exciting project aiming to empower young people to have their say on the forthcoming AV Referendum. Politics and democracy can be hard topics for young people to understand, but this project aims to unwrap these challenging topics through free teaching resources, events and film resources.
The 2011 AV (Alternative Vote) Referendum is the first UK-wide referendum since 1975 and young people need to be involved in deciding about the future of the electoral system they will inherit.
The Young Citizens’ Say: Referendum 2011 project aims to unwrap these challenging topics through free teaching resources, events and film resources.
Today (Thursday 31st March) from 1.50pm and with the support of Catch21 they will be hosting an streaming live an event for hundreds of young people at the Emmanuel Centre, Westminster hosted by Dermot Murnaghan (Sky News), and with special guests including Nick Robinson (BBC Political Editor), Yes/No campaigners, politicians, opinion-formers and youth activists.
This event has now finished. We’ll be presenting some more interviews and thoughts from the event soon, so let us keep you posted using any of usual channels:
