We want to kick-start a revolution of participation in British politics by changing the way it is perceived by the public. Catch21 seeks to achieve this by producing shows all over the UK, which will attract young people - those who are seen as the least likely to be interested in the traditional style of politics - by including well-known public faces.

Taxes

What exactly do we pay tax for in this country? One example is a friend of mine. they recently went to the doctors and whilst there asked for a check-up. He was told that GP's no longer do this and he should go to BUPA. The NHS is becoming an international joke with MRSA and C. Diff rife in our hospitals, waiting times being ridiculous due to understaffing.

Police are dealing with less and less these days from noise pollution to domestic disputes. I drove down the main street into my town last week and saw no less than eight officers waiting in cars by the side of the road pulling over motorists and handing out tickets. Is this what i'm paying my taxes for? What exactly do I get for the money I provide to the government? One feeling amongst a lot of the young people in my area is that we go out to work for between 8-10 hours a day so that people on benefits such as JSA can live as comfortably as us without doing a thing. it is the same for people having child after child after child. Why do we pay our taxes to keep these people in house and home??

Because we live in a civil society that doesn't treat people that badly? Are you really saying we should kick them and their kids out on the streets so we can an extra few pounds each a month in a tax cut (that's assuming you really believe the money wont be diverted to another government department)?

If you really want to talk about 'benefit scroungers' you should compare the money they cost compared to the money corporations evade using clever tax ploys. I think you may be a little shocked...

Of course i'm not suggesting that we should be throwing people out onto the streets. What i'm saying is, that there should be a stronger system put in place to stop things like this from happening.
At this moment in time i feel that i am paying my taxes to enable people to get away with doing absolutley nothing and not contributing anything to society.
And as for the NHS the so called NATIONAL health service, why should i pay for a check up with a private health service when its something i should get from my GP. All GP's are doing nowadays is prescribing drugs or thats what it seems.
The civil society we live in doesn't treat us all that well... if not why are we paying for services we should get on the nhs-a publicly funded health care system?
I'm not saying i want a tax cut at all, i would prefer them to spend the money fixing some of the problems in this country we really shouldn't have.

Unfair taxes

I fully agree with you Emma. It makes my blood boil when I see people taking unfair advantage of the benefit system. Especially those that claim disability benefits when they are perfectly capable of working, or those that are working yet claiming benefit. The tax system is unfair. I find it strange that I have to pay tax on the private medical insurance provided by my company. Rather than getting rewarded by the Government for not using their stretched NHS resources I am lumbered with more tax! I think the Government should start creating "Benefit Wardens" who get paid commission for every fraudulent person they catch.
