We want to kick-start a revolution of participation in British politics by changing the way it is perceived by the public. Catch21 seeks to achieve this by producing shows all over the UK, which will attract young people - those who are seen as the least likely to be interested in the traditional style of politics - by including well-known public faces.

What is all this talk about climate change and global warming?

Can I just say hands up, I really don’t know what all this talk is about climate change….well I do, but I don’t think I fully understand it! It seems as though the media generally cover the issue as though it’s happening and that we (humans) are responsible for it – the general scientific consensus. It comes across like that because of the amount of stories there are on all those things that give off a high amounts of CO2 emissions like airplanes and 4by4s and as a result people get crucified for using them.

StonerSo where do the political parties stand on the issue? Well there’s currently a climate change bill going through Parliament and the main parties will get to scrutinise it between now and summer. The government announced that CO2 emissions will be reduced by at least 60% by 2050, the Lib Dems plan to make that 60% along with Conservatives too.

If you want to help slow down global warming and don’t like the thought of what happens in that film ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ happening then you may want to check out these links;

I think that even if you don’t think there’s anything we can do or that it’s not a serious issue it still makes sense to ride a bike than drive a car where possible and other things like that – because its healthy and usually quicker!

Just a thought.

I would agree with Dan, but I'm not entirely convinced that climate change is a mass conspiracy by the world scientists just out to spoil our fun.

Climate Change is happening: FACT

CC is happening; the anti CC brigade love to try and frame it as a conspiracy of one form or another (a leftist one to raise taxes and interfere in the market being a big fave for some) but it is real and it is happening.

A high majority of real scientists (ie those not funded by oil corporations or greenpeace) agree that CC is happening and at a higher rate due to human activity.

The debate now is how far down the path are we; can we stop it or is it a case of curtailing the worst effects. Some think that we're looking at the deaths of nearly a third of all humanity within this century (and quite possibly within our lifetimes).

Sobering thoughts to reflect upon next time you leave your lights on when you go out...

Good points. I think I would add though that we may as well be environmentally friendly where we can because a) why not? and b) it makes you feel good that you've done something and c) if it's just little things like cycling or reusing a plastic bag or recycling a newspaper it's good for you and it cuts down on pollution etc (which is really does get into your lungs!). This is of course if a lot of people do it..

Climate change is a very serious issue. The UK so far seems unscathed, and many are unaffected by what many scientists are shouting that climate change is the biggest threat to human life as we know it. But what about the storms that have rocked the country as of late? The increasingly unusual weather patterns across the globe? We can't ignore the communities living on small islands whose livelyhoods are at risk as the rising sea levels slowly engulf the land they live on. London is build of flood plains. What happens when our own capital city lies under water?

For many, it is easy to leave their lifestyles unchanged and ignore the rising threat of global warming in the hopes that it will never happen. But it is hard to ignore the reality of the worsening situation. Unless drastic action is taken soon, we could be facing irreversible damage to the world we live in. It is sad to say that George Bush is one of the people who prefer to ignore CC. However i think it will take a hurricane to his house to make him realise that it is an issue which cannot be ignored.
