In recent years there has been increased number of research around Embodied Therapies' effectiveness in psychological trauma treatment. We are interested specifically in the effect that trauma has on the brain and mind-body connection and interaction. According to Dr Bessel van der Kolk the parts of brain that have evolved to monitor for danger remain over-activated a traumatized person.
Even the slightest sign of danger can trigger an acute stress response accompanied by intense, unpleasant emotions and overwhelming sensations. Traumatic symptoms are hard to reach with words only. Trauma is far more complex therefore an effective treatment must involve integration of body and mind approaches.
We are planning events with expert practitioners who deliver different types of Embodied Psychotherapy. We would like to popularize different perspectives on psychological trauma healing as one size does not fit all.
We are planning to collaborate with certified and experienced psychotherapists who work in different embodied/holistic approaches. We believe that effective therapy should be accessible for those who need it the most. Currently NHS offers talking therapies mostly and the waiting lists are long. Our vision is to create a network for Embodied Therapies research and education through our qualitative research and blogs together with practical side of offering actual therapy sessions.
