Poem: "Disappearing" - Maria Goundry

You've let yourself shrivel up to take up less space... You only drink from the cup that makes you feel safe.

Your disease is a plague

it affects everyone around you

only in different ways

We may have lost you for now

but know that I'm always here

when you're ready to lie down

To rest from all those lies

you told yourself

to keep going

to let your thoughts keep flowing

Annoying sounds sing to you like flies

they are asking for help

they surround your mind

You've let yourself shrivel up

to take up less space

you only drink from the cup

that makes you feel safe

Everyone around you is drowning in your

emptiness

You cannot disappear

though your body may

you will still be here

Everyone around you will still hear

will still feel

will still know that you are near

Please free yourself from this fear

of being

and be
